View Full Version : SA8300HD Annoyances

Well, I finally broke down and got the SA8300HD DVR about 10 days ago. Overall, I like it, but I've encountered a couple of annoyances I'd like to ask about.

Many times the DVR does not respond correctly to a FF button push; one push may get the second, third, or even the fourth speed. During FF, another push may return to Play mode, even from the first FF speed. I thought that maybe it was a "sticky" button on the remote, as I was not given a new remote with the box (had a Pace HD box previously) but I never had issues with the FF button while watching the occasional On Demand movie.

Scheduled recordings sometimes end a minute or two before the show ends. I don't think these are for shows that are known to "go long", but just normally-scheduled shows. I know I could take the extra steps to add a couple of minutes to the record end time, but this kinda defeats the easy "couple steps" method to schedule a recording from the guide.

Any known fixes for these problems? I looked through the sticky post "Official SA8300HD DVR Feedback - Post problems here" but didn't see these issues noted.

Thanks,
Jack

Many times the DVR does not respond correctly to a FF button push; one push may get the second, third, or even the fourth speed. During FF, another push may return to Play mode, even from the first FF speed. I have not had that problem; one push always gets me the 'next' speed (starting with 1x, then 2x, 3x, 4x). However, I am using a computer programmed JP1 remote instead of the BHN supplied remote. Sometimes if I'm a little too quick with the pushes I'll get 4x when I want 3x, but I don't think this is a DVR issue. Swap out the remote and if that doesn't fix it, the DVR.
Scheduled recordings sometimes end a minute or two before the show ends.
Yep, I've seen that too. I attribute this to either a clock sync problem on BHN's part or bad information in the program guide, or the network running late (particularly a problem with content from HBO/SHO HD). I don't think it is a DVR issue.

In any case, you should swap the remote for the correct one. The DVR remote has some different buttons than the one on the Pace box.

Thanks, guys. I'll swap out the remote this weekend. Are the remotes well-stocked at the local offices, or should I call support to find availability?

I'd call first.

Call to be safe, but if you're stopping by a location (and happen to have the remote on you), give it a shot.. usually they stock the remotes like they stock candy for the bowl at reception..

I got a new remote, still had same problem. Apparently, it's a "feature" of the firmware. Found info on the AVS site that describes this exact scenario: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=471859

Scroll down a few pages to "Mimic Tivo Jump-Back. UG-14".
