Is construction of a new studio at WTVT debuting at the end of April a sign of a newscast in HD next at the station? hmm..

Doesn' WFLA channel 8 already broadcast their news in HD?

I remember seeing something mentioned about that.

Nope. No local station broadcasts their news in HD at this time.

My neighbor is the reporter April Kellog, but she doesn't know anything about going HD.

So is tonight at 6:00pm the night that WTVT broadcasts the new studio in HD on their 6 o'clock news?

One would think so, even after Bill mentions that "high def studio" back in March. Watch and listen for yourself.

Probably not. Apparently the studio isn't 100% completed.

One thing that is unique - NBC Nightly News on WFLA is now HD seven nights a week. The other networks ignore questions about when they are going to go HD with network nightly news.

So I heard from someone at WTVT today, and they are still ordering new equipment and replacement old equipment to go HD for their news. No timeframe still.

Still blows my mind that we all thought they'd go HD first and here we are like 3 years later and they are the only local news not in HD.

Can't wait, because their use of the Stretch-O-Vision gimmick on their DT station is one of the most wretched in the bay area. Turns my stomach.

What's even more amazing is that WNYW, FOX 5 in New York STILL isn't in HD either. You'd think FOX would have upgraded those guys to HD... yet when I tune to channel 88 on DirecTV I see the same SD look I get from 13. It's gotta be an O&O thing.

PS.... What's funny is WTVT was the first station in Tampa Bay to use the term "HD" when referring to their Skytower HD Vipir, yet here we are years later and it makes no sense whatsoever without the broadcast itself in "HD"!

I couldn't agree more - all their competitors blow their weather graphics away. What a farce.
