For whatever reason Bright House seems to be unable to solve the 'blasting audio' problem that exists on channel 109. Measurements show that the average dialog level difference between (digital) channel 9/609 and channel 109 is almost 20 db.

Bright House technicians at the Pinellas head end have verified the problem but the remainder of the BHN engineering staff seems to be unwilliing, or unable, to address the issue.

If this bothers anyone else I suggest you complain to Bright House Networks Customer service. Maybe after a few dozen more technician visits it will be worth their while to fix this problem.

Bright House Networks management has finally acknowledged this issue and has started the resolution process. It is going to take a while since over the years BHN has spent little effort to develop and implement standards for the encoding of digital audio. That is why we hear such varying audio levels between channels and between segments (and inserts) on single channels such as BN9. It will take time to get each encoding point to properly process their program material.

I'm encouraged by the forward movement, but saddened that it took so long to get anyone's attention.

You didn't come here first to get their attention! :D

Greg took up the cause for a brief time but that didn't go anywhere. I had to find another route, which I finally did.

In most modern customer-centric organizations there is a customer satisfaction / feedback mechanism where recurring complaints (such as the case here with inconsistent audio levels) automatically get flagged as items to be worked. Unfortunately that didn't happen this time.

Hmm.. That's strange and unusual that Greg wasn't able to help. Sorry.

The last post from him was on 2/12 and he didn't respond to a PM left for him on 2/16. That's a month ago.

Good news -- BN9 Weather and BN9 en Espanol audio level issues have been resolved. BHN is still working on the audio associated with BN9 on Demand and Tampa Bay on Demand; these VOD channels will take longer to fix as all programs will need re-encoded.

Thanks to the engineering and management staff at BHN for their responsiveness.
