All,

Following some discussion in another thread, I thought it would be a good idea to solicit your input on improvements to the Explorer 8000. So given that, please post your thoughts as to:

A) What the DVR should do that it currently doesn't; and

B) What is does that it shouldn't;

Just to steal a few of the obvious ones off the top to keep you all from fighting to post them, my initial thoughts are:

A) Should do:

-- HD (both display and record) This requires new hardware--soon I hope.
-- Allow for manual recording (the Passport version in Orlando does)
-- Record only "first-run" episodes if desired (no repeats)

B) Shouldn't do:

-- Miss, lose, screw up (whatever) programming
-- Run the HD 24x7
-- Latency -- slow to change channels

Here's the opportunity to have your voice heard.

One caveat: I live in Orlando, and my DVR is running Passport, not Sara. I haven't had the opportunity to play with the Sara version (I will ensure I do soon), so be sure to fully explain your comment.

One guarantee: I'll make sure the VP of Engineering (in charge of the software) and other appropriate people in BHN Tampa Bay see your comments. No guarantees beyond that however.

Ok -- game on...

Okay, I will add a couple more that I think are fairly obvious.

1. Better searching like TIVO for certain actors, show or movie titiles etc.

2. With HD recording (aren't there a lot of us looking forward to that?) we will need larger hard drives.

3. The ability to adjust to last minute schedule changes. If I want to record a show and it starts late because of a presidental address, I would still like it all recorded.

4. The ability to have the record start and stop a couple of minutes before and after show time to handle networks/local stations whose clocks do not exactly match BHN's. This is expecially useful for things like HBO which sometimes run shows a liltle over the guide time.

5. A 30 sec or 1 minute fast forward to aid in commercial skipping.

Thanks GMClaughlin...you the man :D

The main thing I would like to see added is one of these two options,

I think an example would be the easiest way to tell you what I want.....I like to catch the new episode of "The Screen Savers" every weekday on TechTV, now they have one new episode every week day but they rerun that one episode about 3 times in the next 24 hours each day so I end up using 4 hours of my recorder for one show, I also like to catch "The Orielly Factor" everyweek day and it has the same situation ie- 4 hours of recording each day for one show...so what I end up with is running out of recording space in just a few days if I don't have time to go in a manually delete the 18 copies of 6 programs.....now these are the two ways I can think of too solve this problem that I am pretty sure could be done:

1-give recording options that will let me pick a specific channel, time, and day of the week to record and have it apply that to every concurent week forever or untill I tell it to stop....or

2-(this would work too although the first option would be better I think, both would be great :) ) a setting to not record duplicate shows.

Aside from that I am fairly happy with it....I wish they could do something about it losing all the digital channels once every week or two so that I have to reset it and end up missing the screen savers if I don't notice soon enough.

hd recording would be awsome but as mentioned, that's a whole different cable box :) [/img]

I would like to add something, but honestly, I think all my wishes have been mentioned.

My #1 problem right now - and the cause for me almost throwing the remote across the room countless times - is the delay. I've been sent to InDemand PayPerView so many times because when I enter 011 or 010 or 014, it only takes 01...and then about 10 seconds later, it displays the 3rd digit after already switching channels. That irks me to no end.

Second to that is the inability to tell it to NOT record reruns.
