So I've seen it asked in a couple threads but no clear answers. How can I get the recordings onto my computer for editing and eventual burning to DVD or iPod?
I do have a DVD Recorder that I could replay and record to DVD, then probably rip back off to my computer, but I'm sure there is an easier way with a firewire or USB cable. Can anyone give me some step by step instructions to accomplish this?
Thanks!

for non hd material you can just run the svideo or composite from the dvr into a capture card on your computer. I'm not sure what would be the best software to use to record it, maybe someone else can suggest that.
if you're looking to record the hd material to your computer then you may be out of luck, I've never seen a capture card with a component or dvi/hdmi input on it.

You've posted under "How do I get video from the 8300HD to my computer?" so I'm wondering if you mean HD content.

Most PC based HD TV files start as over the air broadcasts using an ATSC tuner.

A DVD recorder cannot record HD (unless you happen to have an HDTV or Blue Ray recorder) and Firewire and USB are disabled on my SA8300HD.

Wires to a video capture card.
For $1500 you can record or playback component video. I think the software that comes with these cards is maybe worth the $1500.

This seems possible since after a quick check I see copy protection is disabled on my SA8300HD's component out.
As pointed out already, S-Video or composite out work fine. The DVD recorder will work. Ripping from DVD/RW takes forever, so count on the cost of DVD's. Interestingly, all the DVD ripping software that you think will allow you to back-up commercial DVD's but won't actually works on home recorded DVD's (they're not CSS encrypted.)
