Well since our station is capable of sending a HDTV feed to us that this sounds really good for us I would say. Just to make sure UPN has in the past shown the Parimount Movie of the Month in HDTV on 44-1. If this is wrong please let me know since I haven't tuned into any of these broadcasts. But we may be seeing Star Trek Enterprise in 1080i HDTV on 44-1 on October 15 or this Wednesday followed by Jake 2.0 also in 1080i HDTV. Here's the press release stating that this is UPNs first primetime HDTV show ever and its sponsered by Zenith which is also who's sponsering CBS primetime programming this year as well.

Well I've been waiting for Enterprise for I don't know how long and it looks like this Wednesday is the big night.

For Fifth Consecutive Year, CBS to Offer Majority Of Its Primetime Line Up, Including All Scripted Comedies and Dramas, In HDTV
UPN to Offer First Time Ever HDTV Broadcasts of "STAR TREK: ENTERPRISE" and "JAKE 2.0" Beginning October 15
CBS and UPN announced today that they have partnered with Zenith to broadcast scripted primetime television programming in high definition format. The partnership marks CBS's fifth consecutive year of offering its primetime programming in HDTV, and the first year for UPN, which will kick off HDTV broadcasts with STAR TREK: ENTERPRISE and JAKE 2.0 starting Wednesday, Oct. 15 Wednesday, Oct. 15 (8:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT).
"We've very pleased Zenith is partnering with CBS for the third year in a row to sponsor our primetime comedies and dramas in high-def, and we are very excited to be working with them on UPN's first ever HDTV broadcasts, which serves as a giant step toward a sharper, clearer future," said Leslie Moonves, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, CBS, who also oversees UPN. "CBS was the first network to broadcast HDTV primetime, daytime and major sports, and now those same CBS executives are lending their expertise and leadership to launching UPN's high-definition efforts."
"STAR TREK: ENTERPRISE and JAKE 2.0 are the perfect shows for UPN to make its high definition television debut as we showcase the spectacular special visual effects of these shows with the richness and clarity of HDTV images," said Dawn Ostroff, President, Entertainment, UPN. "This is just the beginning and we're looking forward to expanding our high-definition broadcast to other nights of our schedule."
"Zenith is proud to be CBS's exclusive primetime HDTV sponsor for the 2003-2004 season, and especially proud this year to participate in the UPN network's exciting HDTV launch. This alliance builds on CBS's leading role in HDTV programming and Zenith's HDTV technology leadership as a primary developer of the U.S. digital television broadcast standard," said T.J. Lee, President and Chief Executive Officer of Zenith, a wholly owned subsidiary of LG Electronics Inc.
STAR TREK: ENTERPRISE and JAKE 2.0 will be produced in HDTV's highest definition format, 1080i. The stunning and intense special visual effects of both series will be sharper and more amazing with the clarity of 1080 lines of picture resolution. Each line contains 1,920 picture elements for a total image quality of over 2 million picture elements, which is 6 times sharper than standard definition television.
This season, UPN will also broadcast select feature films presented on the UPN MOVIE FRIDAY in HDTV beginning with the broadcast network premiere of "Double Take" on Friday, Oct. 24 (8:00- 10:00 PM, ET/PT).
CBS is currently the industry leader in HDTV programming, broadcasting, on average, 25 hours per week of High Definition television, more than any other broadcast network, and more original HD programming per week than any other network, broadcast or cable or satellite. One hundred and fifty-one of CBS's owned and affiliated stations are currently broadcasting in digital, covering approximately 91.5 percent of the nation and by the end of the year will reach 95 percent. This year, CBS is presenting in HD its leading Sunday NFL game each of the seventeen Sundays of the regular NFL season. For the last four years, CBS also has aired HD productions of the NCAA Men's Basketball Final Four and Championship Games, as well as The Masters® Golf tournament. CBS also broadcast the 2001 Super Bowl and all of the 2003 AFC Playoffs in HDTV. In June 2001, CBS became the first to broadcast HD in Daytime when it commenced daily weekday HD broadcasts of television's leading daytime drama THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS.

Well this came outta left field even moreso than the BHN CBS coverage.
Incredible NEWS. :P :D :) :o
For the past 2 weeks I had been watching Smallville/Angel LIVE, and catching Enterprise on rerun (tho I missed it this week).
Now I'm gonna Tivo the WB and go back to live OTA for UPN for 2 hours.
Woohoo!
I'd like to have some guests over to watch it this week - I hope it will go on without any flaws, but history would say that it won't be 100% on the 1st attempt.

This is GREAT news....if you have OTA, as a lifelong trekkie\trekker I wish it were on BHN. I can't wait to hear how it looks. Come on BHN, add it to the tier and I'll pay the 6 bucks.

It looks a bit soft on my X-1. Of course it's still leaps & bounds above SD.

I thought so too at first but the more I watch it the more I am impressed. Especially with the close up shots.
I wasn't expecting such a clear picture on the CGI parts.
Overall I would say it is alot better than SD.
There haven't been any quirks like you might expect in a first broadcast.
I am recieving 2.0 sound, which my decoder is decoding Dolby pro-logic.
This is my first time watching Enterprise, and I will watch again.

2.0 here, obviously, also. I've been watching 'Enterprise' since the begining, so this is a definate improvement. I relegated 'Ed' to my Tivo on Wednesdays from now on.
On the close ups I can still make out stray hairs from the crew. The shots of Enterprise in space are great. But there's still a softness to the overall picture. Maybe once we get some brightly lit shots the veil will drop. Not that I'm really complaining, just commenting.
Once again, this is great.

Bob Sink and the crew over at UPN44 deserve a big "Atta Boy!" after pulling off a wonderful premier night of HD.
Enterprise was fantastic - yes, soft from the beginning, but thats a matter of director's style, like we've seen in CSI, et. al.
I'd been watching them already in OTA Digital, and I could scale the image size to fill my screen, so no difference there, but the clarity of the space scenes and ships was terrific.
And Jake was great as well!
He will be posting a full HD schedule for us soon, which includes (i'm told) some Friday night surprises.
PS _ I wonder if it would help to send a THANK YOU email to someone either/both at Zenith or UPN (or UPN Local). If anyone has any ideas or can provide an address, I'd suggest "us fans" let them know how we feel.

Fair is Fair. As I stated before, I am not a fan of this station, but they did a GREAT JOB Wednesday. I recorded it, but haven't watched it all the way through.
Being never satisfied, let's get the 5.1 up and running.
