I believe there is a non-compete agreement in effect until the end of the year for the county. Until the agreement is over, Verizon can't lay fiber or anything.

Verison is currently installing underground cable in Palm Harbor in some of the subdivisions south of Tampa Rd., between Belcher and CR. 1.

Then perhaps the agreement is part of the county and not the whole county,

It doesn't surprise me, it's been like Time Warner has owned most of the county forever, definitely Countryside! It was over 5 years ago when some subs strung up two fiber main lines through the neighborhood. I asked them who they were for and was told one was for GTE and the other one was for TW - so far only the telco has been put to use for residential users. A friend lives North in Palm Harbor and just got FIOS Internet service and Verizon said that FIOS-TV was coming soon.

It wasn't even until last year that we could get Verizon DSL in Countryside, it's been RoadRunner for years or slow dialup. No contest. What a crock!

From what I’ve observed driving around, Verizon started laying fiber in Pinellas at the Pasco County line and appeared to be working South from Tarpon Springs down to Palm Harbor. I’m not sure where you live, but most of the activity is in the US19 corridor, though I've also seen them on East Lake in Tarpon too.

In the other direction a friend of mine told me they just laid fiber in his sub-division north of New Port Richey.

Here is a link from the St. Pete Times from May that discussed Verizon's plans for installing cable in Pinellas. While the article says they would stay North of Tampa Rd., the work they are doing now is South of Tampa Rd.

It was just portions of Pinellas that had the agreement. Its probably over now.
