..from existing DirecTV customers. I am currently with BHN and am considering making the switch. Any reasons why I should not?

What are your reasons you are considering the switch?

Primarily the abundance of sports programming available in HD. Obviously there's the Sunday Ticket and it's add-ons...then add ESPN2 HD, NFL Network, and all of the 16 FSN regional channels (whereas with BHN, I have to purchase the Sports Pak to gain access to only 3 of them) . Being that I am a huge college sports fan, I would gain access to CSTV as well.

Well, I just activated 3 of the brand new HD-DVR's from directv (HR20-700) and I am really impressed with the PQ and the huge improvements with the MPEG4 PQ over the H20's. The choppiness is totally gone and looks as good as OTA. That's one reason to get D*. I am a Tivo fan so I kept my 2 HD Tivos on the account but I find myself gravitating to the new ones more and more.

Ch 8 has played another follow-up to their story about the problems with directv's new HD systems. People are having trouble with audio dropouts and audio sync problems, where the sound is lagging behind the video broadcast. Their original 8-on-your-side story asked viewers to write in if they were having similar problems, and they got about 20 responses. One man said he had upgraded to the 5-LNB dish and still had problems.
The original broadcast from the ch-8 consumer center is available online and has some good info: http://www.tbo.com/video/xml/MGBN6UPBZRE.html

I have the HR10-250 hd-tivo DVR receiver and don't often have any audio problems, but am using an old round single-sat dish and getting my local HD stations from an off-air antenna. If you've been reading my other posts, then you know how directv has a problem with the guide showing 8-2 and 8-3 with reversed listings for the last 4-6 months. If they won't/can't fix a simple problem like that, how in the world can they handle the more complex problems with audio sync and dropouts. Like most cutting edge tech companies, it seems that most of their r&d effort is directed at new product development, rather than fixing up past goof ups. This is kind of forced upon them, trying to keep up with BH and Verizon offerings, however, they did just release a software upgrade that will improve the way my receiver works, to their credit.

I'll have to check that one out. Does she have an H20 or a new HR20?
