I don't know about anyone else but I am looking forward to checking out the HD locals via Directv. Yeah I have an OTA antenna and I can pick up all the stations including 38. But this is new and that makes it exciting.

I have already purchased a H20 MPEG4 reciever from BB.

I called Directv today and asked them about scheduling an install date for the new AT9 dish.
They said that they were not able to schedule the apointment yet. They also said that in the other markets they didn't get any advanced notice as to when they would be able to schedule that date. He sugested I call back in a week or two and maybe they might be able to schedule it then.

So I am going to wait.
When I get my date I will post back.
If anyone else calls between now and next week let me know what they say.

I just checked Directv website and now it shows that Tampa is now live with the HD Locals. It's time to start calling and see how soon they will come out and install it. http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/see/LocalChannels.jsp?_requestid=318191

Not a good day for them to go down. The wife says I have to wait untill the 15th before I can call anyways. Hope they are up by then LOL!!

D* sent me a H20 overnight on the 8th even when their computer systems were down. I couldn't believe it. I was just expecting a call back within 24hrs. That's customer services!

When are you going to get the dish to go with your H20. Also, did you do the $99 upgrade?

I just scheduled my at9 dish install.
They are coming out on the 18th to do it.

I already bought a H20 reciever so they are just replacing the dish and installing a multiswitch.

They charged my $121 with tax and fees. I know I could of complained and got it for free but I am just not up to the challenge today.

I noticed today that Circuit City has the H20 with a rebate that brings the price down to -.01. That's funny, the shelf sticker actually has a minus bottom line price. There's also an open box special for about $150. Weird pricing these directv boxes have.
In case anyone is considering a new audio receiver for xmas, I just got the new panasonic all-digital XR-55 and am adding extra speakers to handle the 7.1 system.
Let me know if you want to hear it. There's a 70-page thread about it on the AVS forum.

Thanks to BDraw and the heads-up, my dish install is scheduled for the 20th. They're hitting me for $105.93 and will supposedly swap out my existing dish and receiver.

That is cheaper than mine was and they arent even bringing me a reciever!

My install is set for the 19th. I called last week and my install is free. I had to go through about 4 CSR's until I got to the person that could authorize it. I'm actually replacing 3 HD receivers and the dish.

Two things...
Am I right in thinking that only the 8, 10, 13, and 28 digitals are probably on DirecTV? Those would be the only additional channels I'm gonna pull in with the dish swap right? I picked up the H20 (keeping my Sammy 160 for another room) a few weeks ago when the rebate deal was offered and now I'm wondering if I should go ahead and try for a free dish upgrade like you guys are doing. Any more advice on what department I need to ask for when I call to avoid all the ignorant BS there at DirecTV central?

Oops... 1 more thing... anyone know if the my old SD RCA's are gonna work with this new dish? I've still got a couple hooked up to SD TVs.

The Big Four are the only ones right now that are on using the AT9 dish.

All SD receivers will work with the new dish. They just won't see the Spaceway Sats.

The installation company called me today and said they couldn't come out for another 2 weeks and on a Tuesday.
I got every agrivated, but kept my composure.
The lady said she was sorry and that she would call back.
She called back and now they are coming on Saturday. I told her that was find but if they were here during the bucs game there were on their own. I couldn't deal with them.

So hopefully they come in the morning.

Teampozer you could get the dish now and saver yourself the hassel later.
But I read over at AVS that if you wait till they start rolling out national MPEG4 channels you won't have to bitch to get the upgrade. They are only trying to charge the people who call in and ask for the upgrade.

I just had Direct Tv install H20 box and 5lnb dish last friday at my home in South Tampa (so I could receive local HD). I can't receive any of the local hd's very well. I get horrible pixelation, ghosting, sound is way out of sink and goes in and out, on all local HD channels. All of the other channels come in perfectly including hdhbo and hdshowtime.

Impossible to watch locals on my big screen DLP without frustration.

Installer said they are still working things out and he wasnt having success with a number of his installations...........

Are any of you on the new system getting good reception or did I get an
installer that didnt know what he was doing?

I have yet to get mine installed, they instaler didn't have everything he needed. But I suspect the reason is that they didn't install it correctly.
Evidently the new dish is alot more sensitive htan the old one. You can watch the installer instruction video here and maybe tell them how to do their job.

Well, I called on the 18th to schedule my upgrade to the h20. The lady told me that my zipcode(33541) did not come up on her computer as a zipcode for the upgrade but she knew that it was. So she said she would have to fill out a manual form and her supervisor would have to put it in the system and to call back in 72hrs and confirm that it was in the system. When I talked to her I was scheduled for 12/31/05 as the install date. So I called back tonight to confirm like she said and the guy I talked to said that the order was in but they had no local install date until 1/21/05 but that they had wavied the upgrade fee so that the upgrade would be for free. So I guess I have to wait another few weeks but it will be free!!!! I did ask him if they could just send me the dish and receiver and I would install it myself but he said they couldn't do that. So, I guess I have to wait untill the 21st. Has anybody else had there install yet?

My friend Rich who posted a few weeks ago had his installed. I talked to him online but he has posted his thought about the install yet.

I am still waiting for them to re-schedule my install.

I am ready to get the D* H20/AT9 package here in Sarasota. I guess I should expect a considerable delay before they can install it?

Will they just add the 5lnb (AT9) dish and leave my 3lnb dish that I am now using with my DirecTiVo units?

Is there any benefit to buying the H20 from BB or Circuit City?

What kind of cost will this new system cost me? Free sounds best. :D

Thanks!

The AT-9 replaces the triple sat dish and you are best off ordering the H20 receiver directly from directv.

How many receivers can be connected to the AT9 ?

I now have two receivers (both DirecTiVos) and will obviously be adding the H20 high-def receiver. If I desire, can the AT9 also handle another H20 --- or a total of four receivers, or more?

Thanks!

The AT-9 has a multiswitch system for it that will allow at least 16 outputs with cascading. You can use as many H20s with it as you can afford!

Recently, Action news 8 on your side reports problems with sound cutting out on local HD channels. Anyone had this problem? Calls to DirectTV confirm and said working to correct.

Here is the video..

I would like to know if anybody still has this problem. Because the report is talking about HD Locals and the tv shown is only on WFLA. What I saw in the video is what I saw OTA, BHN, and FiOS. However, WFLA had a problem and fixed it recently with my help.. Here is that thread. http://www.tampahdtv.com/tpahd-vb/showthread.php?t=10447. Makes me wonder, I'll have to call 8 on your side..

The only local HD problem that I have is no CC on Fox, ever. The CC works fine on the other channels and it comes through OK on my Brighthouse cable but not on D*.

Fox 13-1 captions are working on my HR10-250 hd-tivo OTA. I don't know about the DirecTV satellite-delivered version of Fox.
