Most of you are probably aware that Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy will be going high-def this month. To be exact September 11th.

The Tampa/ St. Petersburg station that carries these two programs is channel 10, WTSP. Given the fact that WTSP only has one year left on their contract to carry these two programs (it will be on a different station next year) and that WTSP doesn't have the equipment to rebroadcast HD (at this time), do not expect WTSP to broadcast these two programs in HD (at this time).

If that is true then how did channel 10 broadcast their hurricane season special in HD that they produced themselves?

Borrowed equipment.. Everything used to produce and broadcast the hurricane special was on loan from their corp office.

I know they want the equipment, but they just don't have it now.

Looks like both Wheel and Jeopardy have both been in HD the past few nights.

Is this for good or a limited time?

Good question.. I haven't spoke to them in a while. I'll call them next week and find out.

Well, I know it's been almost a month..

As you might have known by now both Wheel and Jeopardy are both in HD. This will be a permanent HD show on WTSP until September when the show will be moving to a different station.

What is interesting to know that I just found out yesterday is that both Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy are recorded on BLU-RAY at WTSP 3 days prior to broadcast. One of the reasons why WTSP was able to go with HD on these shows is that a firmware upgrade for BLU-RAY was applied that allowed them to record Closed Captioning. Without it they would not be able to broadcast the show in HD.

I assume both of these shows will continue to be HD when they make the switch next month. Especially considering the commercials I've been seeing stating that it will be in HD for the first time in Tampa Bay (obviously false). If they have recording equipment to show this, I wonder if they will start getting bucs highlights in HD too.

Kind of an odd thread to follow till I looked at the dates of the previous postings. :-)
