One less reason to use Directv.
Will make it all the more interesting when ESPN2 starts on DirecTV on Sept 8th.

Is Universal HD a temporary channel? I hope not! It's one of the few channels I actually enjoy. I got the following email from BHN which led me to believe it's temporary during the US Open only:
Starting August 29, all HD customers will be able to enjoy the 2005 US Open live in High Definition on channel 540. Universal HD has teamed up with Bright House Networks to carry the Universal HD channel for all High Definition customers during this tournament. The US Open runs from Aug. 29, 2005 through Sept. 11, 2005.
Why can't BHN get this channel for keeps? Is this normally considered a pay channel since the shows and movies are commercial free and uncut?

I could be wrong on this but last I heard is that after this special event BHN and TWC for that matter will have their final deal in place for full time carriage. Because they needed a little more time for the contract Univeral HD allowed BHN and TWC to carry the feed without a contract until they finish the deal. Both companies thought that the Tennis matches would hurt them both if they couldn't air them because of not having a contract done now instead of in two or three weeks from now. Also expect this HD channel to be part of the HD package.

The guide is up for 540 now. I scanned the next week of the guide and besides tennis, thier schedule sucks. Just like TNTHD, it's another worthless channel.

It wasn't when they were showing Battlestar Galatica in HD.
Like any channel it is only good if something you like to watch is on.
They have their movies too.
I can see how you would compare it to TNTHD except that all of Universal's content is in HD. It is more comparable to HDnet Movies where there is only about 3 shows a month worth watching.
