Hello all i'm new to HDTV and new to this forum, I think it is a good source for info. Having said that can anyone answer the question of when and what does the future look like on getting more high definition channels? Is it Brighthouse's responsibility to put the channels out or is it the cable channel's responsibility to broadcast more hi-def channels? Thanks. javascript:emoticon(':D')

What channels do you want? Note that HD is not a broadcast standard. It is a recording standard. Therefore, if the show is not recorded in HD, the cable company cannot make it HD. Films (of any age) are technically HD because the film can be converted through a telecine to HD resolution. This is how HBO creates the content for their HD channel.
For example, the SciFi Network does not create any HD content. BrightHouse cannot create a SciFi Network HD channel.
VOOM, an satellite cable service, is the leader in HD programming. They have a significant amount of content. Check out their web site (voom.com?).

I'll field that question...
How about Cinemax HD, Starz HD, WB HD, the NFL Channel HD (or even SD) ???

Well yes the show has to first be made in HDTV or converted to HD. Once that is done the network its broadcast on (ie HBO, SciFI, TNT, ABC etc) has to broadcast an HDTV feed. Once the network is broadcasting their HD feed with HD content than that leaves the different cable and satellite providers to work out deals to carry the channel.
Now most national HD channels will be done by Time Warner Cable Corporate and those deals would pass down to all local Time Warner Cable markets, BHN Corporate and that would lead to local BHN markets as well. So for us until TWC Corp makes a deal we won't see anything on the national HD front. Now this has a good and bad side to it.
The bad side is if your corporate company doesn't work out any deals. The good side is if a corporate company always adds new deals you in that local market would always get the benefit of this.
Also even if TWC corporate gets many new national HD channel deals if your local market happens to be out of bandwidth you won't see any of those new channels. TWC NY went through this problem for quite a while I might add.

Even SD shows would look better presented in a wide-zoom HD format like TNT HD does with some of its programming. I am just getting sick of looking at SD images altogether. The HD signal is just so much clearer and sharper, even when showing an SD program.

I agree and would rather see a scifi show in digital widescreen instead of analog anyday. Granted I would love it in HDTV but anything is better than analog.
