Ok I want to finally splurge and get the recoder.
The thing is I don't want to have to deal with this stupid Lease program they started. Spend all that money, commit to the time frame and you still have to give the unit back....that is BS.
Anyone know a way around this or what I can do?

Buy one on E-Bay. You can get one for around $300.

Will BHN activate privately owned cable boxes and cable dvr's like that? I had always assumed that you have to rent the box from them to get service since they have cable provider specific software?

I was in Circuit City today and they had the HR10-250 tivo receivers for 399 with a 100$ rebate....net $299. I didn't see any on the shelf other than the demo's, so I don't know if that's what you pay to get one from DirecTV, with CC acting as a sales agent, or what.

Floyd you have to wait at least 30 days. In mid-September the new Directv HD DVR will be out that will utilize the new 5 LNB dish allowing for HD locals and all of the new Mpeg 4 stuff. It will be the same price as the current HD Tivo sells for right now. If you wish to get the new HD DVR or if you want the HR10-250 still wait because people will be kicking those things to the curb in a hurry.
