Does anyonre know if BHN will carry the Thursday and Friday HD from the Master's golf tourney? USA is carrying it, so I was wondering if BHN will pick it up.

I'd assumed this to be so, but never checked on it officially until now.

On Thursday and Friday, beginning at 4pm and lasting until 7pm, WTPS will carry the Masters Golf tournament on BHN channel 610, in the HD feed. For whatever reason, the programming decision didn't get to the Guide data vendor, so the guide still shows the normal programming. If you want to DVR the coverage, you'll have to set up a manual recording (like I just did :-) Wahoo!)

On Saturday and Sunday, they will carry both the analog and HD feed, channel 10 and 610 respectively.

Not sure what they're going to do about the rain though...

GREG, THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

I called BHN and went thru 3 CSR's and they all told me no HD till the weekend and only 67 would carry it today and tomorrow.

Thanks again Greg. U Da Man!

BTW, when are you going to complete your move to Tampa so that you can join us for a beer?

WOW!! What a beautiful picture. You have got to go to 610 and see the Masters in HD. What a beautiful course.

Noticed something I hadn't seen before. Today while watching the Master's in HD on BHN610, I went into the other room and turned on the non-HD TV in my bedroom to watch the Master's while I changed cloths. Turned to BHN 10 and lo and behold, no Master's!

This is the first time I have ever seen then show completely different programming on the analog and HD channels.

CBS did the special feed of the Masters last year as well. It's really up to the local affiliate whether they're going to carry it or not.

CBS Sports sets up all the cameras before the Master's, and the CBS announcing crew produces the Thursday and Friday round as well. But CBS doesn't want to preempt the afternoon programming, especially the 6:00 news, so they don't carry the feed in Analog. Instead they sell it to USA (another Viacom entity). But USA doesn't have distribution for the HD feed, just the SD. The first few years they gave it to INHD to carry, but that shifted to Bravo (now Universal HD) last year. But somehow CBS retained the right to show the HD feed as well, and provided that right to the local affiliates on an optional basis.

I don't know what WTPS did last year (because I was focused more on Orlando), but they stepped up to the plate this year. Might be worth a few 'thank you" emails to the station, especially ones that aren't critical for a change.

Now to my pulpit: The Masters is what HD was made for. Period. When we launched in Orlando in Jan 2001, with limited programming and a hand-built S/A 2000 set top, I really just wasn't that inspired by the whole HD concept. Then came the Master's feed that April, with limited cameras, some SD some HD. I watched it on a 50" Pioneer plasma we had in the lab, and that did it for me. I never really understood what was so special about Augusta National until that day. I've been hooked on HD ever since.

Still working on the move, but I'm in Tampa Monday through Thursday nights, then back to Orlando on the weekends. I guess I missed MJ Barleyhoppers - need to start checking the other parts of the forum more often. But I'm open for an invite during the week.

Greg, thanks you so much for the details on the Master's. I have to agree, HD makes you appreciate the beauty and meticulous manicuring that go into the Augusta grounds.

Now that I know the details, I will write a thank you to WTSP for showing the HD feed.

We need to get Jaymer, the ring master, to set up another get-together soon.

Thanks again.

Boomer... "ring master" - ha!
Wasn't someone suggesting a place over on N Dale Mabry (was that you Boomer after saying you drove 1hr this way). I'm up for that, but it prolly knocks Greg out if its on Thurs. cause he's heading back to Orlando.
I'm up for anything - you Westchase guys come up with something over there.

Jaymer...why not start a meetings forum for the meet and greets?

It would be easier to check the latest get together with out possable missing the get together in some obscure chain in one of the other forums.
