View Full Version : BHN Channel Lineup.. too many non-HD channels mixed in

what's up with BHN's channel lineup? there are several non-hd channels mixed in with the rest of the HD lineup. There must be 4 public broadcast channels, not HDTV, in the 615-620 area. This makes no sense to a person wanting to "surf" the channels. Why would you place ABC at 628 and have the other networks at 605-613 and put several non-hdtv channels in between? And what's the story with 632? It's not an HD channel either. How about adding HD channels to this area?
It seems to be a theme with Brighthouse. There is no rhyme or reason for the placement of any channels, HD or otherwise. Wouldn't it make sense to put news channels in one area, sports in another, etc.? instead, fox news is at 37, cnn, 29, MSNBC 41, etc. It's ridiculous. Oh yeah, the golf channel is next to MTV.. a lot of sense that makes too.
These channels are HD capable; they are just not broadcasting HD at this time.

These channels are digital but not HD. They would have to upgrade their equipment to support HD, so technically they are not HD capable.
I agree 100% it sucks that they do that, and what makes it worse is that you can't remove them from the guide. This is one of many reasons why I switched to Directv. I only have 14 channels in my guide, I block everything except the channels I watch.

That was basically the gist of my post yesterday as well. I wish they would get all the PBS stations with the exception of perhaps the HD one out of there. NBC digital I don't mind as much, since when they don't broadcast HD feed, and the NBC HD channel stretches the NON-HD material, I can just go up one channel to the NBC-D channel and watch it in 4:3.........
and even if WMOR HD had some HD......who wants to watch Jerry Springer in HD anyhow........

It's mandated by the programmers...BHN doesn't have a choice.

I don't know about that gmclaughlin. You're telling me that Brighthouse doesn't get to pick where the channels go? A network tells Brighthouse where exactly that channel has to go? Why couldn't they put the public stations in the 600-604 range, before 605? You're reasoning sounds pretty questionable.

If there is anyone on here you don't want to question about all matters BHN, it's Greg. He is a mole we have planted in the upper ranks of the BHN organization.
Actually he is a VP over there, so I would believe what he says on all BHN matters.

To be honest it wouldn't suprise me at all that the broadcaster would force cable companies what channels they use for their feeds. Now IMO I don't know what difference it all makes except to help customers remember but if they really wanted todo this than why wouldn't BHN put ABC HD on channel 611 instead of channel 628. With that said it would seem that BHN was forced to use channel 628 where they might have wanted to use 611.

They put them on 628 because they are channel 28. They are only channel 11 on BHN analog. Channel 28 is their local channel.

gmclaughlin explaination no matter how stupid it sounds I believe it.
Not only does he always provide acturate information, it is well known that the reason it took so long for BHN to carry NBC was because BHN didn't want to carry the sub channel and NBC said it was all or nothing. Everyone should be happy that the weather map isn't on their too!

That weather map is pretty crappy isn't it. Now I believe gmclaughlin on this specific information but don't think he will always be correct because I've read a few things he was dead wrong about and I'm sure is was trying to say something that someone else said and he said it all very wrong trying to kinda act like he knew what he was talking about. But well over 90% of what I have read from him has been dead on but he has been wrong and sounded stupid before and it could happen again.

The map is OTA only which is why you didn't find it on BHN.
