It looks like from the ads and the web site that you can now get Voom without buying the equipment. But, you have to make a one year commitment.

Is this true? Or am I reading this wrong.

Also, it says the locals are OTA. I assume they roll this into the single reciever so you don't have to change sources?

I'm getting sick of the "LOST SIGNAL" messages I am getting on the HD-DVR and the lousy signal of BHN. Espesially when paying them $120 a month (includes internet). Can't wait for Verizon TV.

Thanks,
BOb

Opps... just read an article linked to from the OTA forum that VOOM is out of business.

Guess I'll persue OTA equipment.

Voom is not out of it yet, but many believe it is just a matter of time. I say if you like their deal take it worst case you put off using another subscriber in the mean time. They are still doing installs.

Personally I don't have them, because they don't carry HDnet, and they don't have a Tivo.

"LOST SIGNAL" ? On which DVR? I can't recall hearing of this error? For my own education, where/what was happening/etc ?

On the lousy signal, it can happen at times. I'd definately recommend calling it in if it's providing you with issues. And also I'd recommend (as I did yesterday on a similar issue), monitor your signals and write them down. I know it seems silly, but it helps you track and prove if you've got an issue.

Yes... while watching a recording the words "LOST SIGNAL" are displayed then the show comes back again. This is on the HD-DVR, I think it is an SA-8300HD.

Yes, it is silly. They have no problem collecting their payments or shutting off your service if you don't make your monthly pre-payment. I shouldn't have to "Prove" that I am having problems.

Right now Voom will give you Voom in three rooms for one dollar. Now I could be wrong on some of this but I'll check when I get the chance. Now they rent the boxes for 5 dollars per month and that includes their extra room fees. For right now they require a six month agreement not a year to their base package at around 50 per month but they would give you all premium movie channels free for two months and after that you have to downgrade on your on to what you want.

Now your HD local channel will be provided by an outdoor OTA antenna that they provide and if I'm not mistaken even if you cancel after six months you can keep the outdoor antenna for free. Now this outdoor antenna isn't one of those clip on dish ones but in my case a wineguard I think. Now they use a multiswitch that would pipe you OTA antenna so you don't have to change inputs or anything. Everything intergrates nicely into their program guide. Right now you can't record anything because they don't offer any type of DVR not even an SD DVR.

Now as them staying in business I have no idea how long they would stay in business but either way you can't loose while your with them. Now also keep in mind that they do require a landline to be connected to all receivers in the home and they enforce it like crazy unlike say D* and E* so keep that in mind.

I understand your pain, but this is a problem with the affiliate, so you would see it with Voom too or Directv for that matter. I have Directv and I also see that. It is caused from our local affiliate loosing the HD signal uplink from the network.

You can tell it is the network because BHN doesn't show the lost signal message when it looses it's signal it just pukes.

Just so you all know as of right now Voom will be out of business. This is official so don't sign up now because it would all be a waste now that the Cablevision board decided to shut the service down.
