Hey guys I just got a Channel Master 4228 and I want to give you a progress report. The antenna is for my new house which I will be closing on next week (keeping my fingers crossed). In any case I talked to one of Channel Master's techs last week, told him about wanting to do an attic mount and went over what would be best. He was pretty familiar with the Tampa program line-up and was real helpful. Even though this antenna is a UHF he told me that it would most likely work with Fox and NBC even though they are VHF. Well I got it yesterday and threw it up on a plant shelf in my current house above the display and WALA! He was right! This thing is pulling in every channel both UHF and VHF with a "strong" rating on the meter. I currently have it facing in the direction of Riverview and it is still pulling a "strong" signal from CBS in New Port Richey. My new house is only a few blocks away and I am hoping placing it even high up in the attic it should work since I am getting such good results in the middle of my family room. I will keep you updated.

Is the 4228 available locally or does it have to be ordered online?

I ordered it from http://www.warrenelectronics.com/ and had it in less than a week.

Hey Baja,
I live in Meadow Pointe in New Tampa/Wesley Chapel. I am shopping around for an antenna and would like to know how your channel master is working out for you?

Thanks.

I called DOW a couple of months ago. They told me they can not sell retail. They will only sell if you have an account with them. They even had the part I was looking for in stock. They flat out turned me away and wanted to hear nothing about it. Warren once again got my buisness.

Sorry for the delayed response. The 4228 is working out fine. I have it in my attic under a tiled roof. I did add a pre-amp to it to compansate for the attic install. I was having a little bit of a hard time trying to get CBS along with the Riverview channels all at the same time. I was going to add a jointenna and go with another 4228 but opted to put a rotor up and go that route. Due to the relatively small footprint of the 4228 I was able to find a spot inside my attic that would fit the rotor. Man much nicer than always having to get into the attic and play around when I wanted CBS. I think I may have the first attic rotor install that I am aware of.

yup, of course I read this latest thread after I returned from Dow after being turned away. When I told them I had my own company and wanted to start an account, he asked. "what type of company?". When I said it was a computer company, they would prefer not to start an account unless I was in the satellite business. After a little persistence, he reluctantly gave me an application.

Don't think I will be doing business with them though. Their attitutude was less than friendly.

I ordered the 4228 from Warren as was suggested earlier in this thread. I live near Westchase in west Hillsborough. I also have mine in the attic. I get all the Riverview channels strong, except Fox which is good, but not as strong as the others. CBS does not come in at all while pointing to Riverview. I was thinking of trying it outside when I get ambitious enough to move it. Then, if that is not enough, use a jointenna.

brennt, remember that the 4228 is a UHF antenna and FOX and NBC in Tampa are VHF but because of the high gain of the 4228 you still get them. It is the same way with me, FOX is about 69% in signal strength on my Sammy T160. I sometimes have some issues with break-ups on FOX on very windy days but it is usually not a problem on most other days.
