Some guy over in the Tampa-HD thread on AVS Forum asked where he could find info on Tampa HD, so I told him about this forum. All I did was post a link, said nothing else. This was the response I received:

ftboomer:

I deleted a post you made directing people to an outside forum. We're trying to establish a presence on AVS for the Tampa area members and are enforcing the rules established by AVS in the Local HDTV forum. See Rule #6 in the sticky and PM me if you have any questions.

Thanks.

And my respoonse:

The guy asked a direct question. With hundreds of thousands of members are you that afraid of people getting infomation from multiple sources? I'm sure you only watch 1 television station as well. If someone can not get the answers they are looking for, they should be able to know where to get it. Now I remember why I left this place, Nazi resigms are very non-productive.

Sorry to hear that you are afraid of non-existant competition.

Also sorry for the rant, it is not directed at you personnally, it is directed at the establisment and those who make up stupid rules out of fear.

Excellent reply! I stopped going there because of a similar situation of not being able to post links to other sites for additional info. I'm curious to see what his/their response will be. Keep us posted!

That's pretty much standard operating procedures for a lot of message boards. I once got suspended from a health-related message board about diabetes merely for mentioning the American Diabetes Association (I didn't even provide a link) because the ADA's website includes a message board, which the forum moderator saw as competition. I think that, at least in some cases, this type of action is the result of giving some 15 year old kid authority for the first time in his life by making him a moderator, and having it go to his head.

I could understand if they made money off of the number of members or the number of posts, but this is really screwy.

No I did not pm the link I posted it in the Tampa - HDTV forum.

I think the policy is silly as well, and I also think your response was good.

I will post over there now that I know it is there. If I can help out.
But Let them edit my signature if they want to.
I have had a link to this site in my avs sig since this forum was created, and it has yet to be edited.

I did go back and look and the moderators did edit some of my old posts in which I refered someone to this board.

In the future when someone asks where to find more infor on Tampa HDTV, I wlll refer them to google.

This site is somehow forth on the list now, but still high enough for someone to find it.

Just wanted to chime in and say I don't post there anymore either. I find their mods angry, jealous, and childish. Too much bickering goes on over there. If I want info on Tampa Bay... I come here. If I need info on equipment or some kind of national service... I still feel way more confortable that I won't be blasted even if it is off topic or in the wrong "area".

I agree, much more comfortable over here. I was following the "LOST" & "Carnivale" threads over there when I stumbled across the Tampa thread.
